Frank's Ramblings RSS

This where I jot down some of the most random shit that pops in my head. I post to it as often as I like without regard to how annoying it might be. The contents are then queued up and posted to twitter every 6 hours or so.

Moving Forward On My iPhone App

I think I’ve finally decided on my iPhone app approach. I’ve been wanting to develop what I’m calling a “one touch” reminder or alarm app but was frustrated with the lack of background timers. I’ve raised a feature request and have done what I can there.

Now my choices are to simply write the app using foreground timers (forcing users to keep the app running) or use push notifications for the alarms, a proposition I’m afraid might get too expensive in the long run.

What I’ve decided to do is move forward with the UI design and publish a non-push version to test the market, along with my own use of the app. If it turns out to be as useful as I hope I’ll then worry about updating to use push. In the mean time perhaps Apple will loosen up on background processes in some way.
